Vehicle Inspection

Vehicle Inspection

Vehicle inspection is an important step towards your new used car. It is wise to do thourogh vehicle inspection only after obtaining vehicle history report on that car. Otherwise, vehicle inspection may turn into waste of time. If the car owner refuses to provide VIN number for you to run VIN check prior to inspection, that should put you on guard: probably he or she has got something to conceal. There are questions you should ask, especially if seller is a private owner. Pay attention to the seller’s reaction, remember to put down the answers. You’ll match them with the results of your own inspection and the one done by your mechanic (if it comes to that).

  • Ask for maintenance and service records, make photocopies.
  • How long have they owned the car and why are they selling it?
  • Have they experienced problems with this car?
  • How often have they changed the oil?
  • Has it been in an accident, flooded or damaged in some other way?
  • Where did they keep the car?
  • Where was the car driven?
  • Did it have major repairs done? When?
  • Make sure the seller has two sets of keys.
