Car Key Cloning(reported by a car owner)

Car key cloning is something any car owner should know about for this info is worth the price of your car. Fortunately, I never had to face this but still… The car thieves peer through the windshield of your car or truck, write down the VIN number from the label on the dash, go to the local car dealership and request a duplicate key based on the VIN Number - clone your car keys.

I didn’t believe this e-mail, so I called Chrysler-Dodge and pretended I had lost my keys. They told me to just provide in the VIN Number, and they would cut me a new one on immediately, and I also was offered to order the keyless device if I wanted. The Car Dealer’s Parts Department will make a duplicate key from the VIN Number, and collect payment from the thief who will return to drive your car away from you. No need to break in, do any damage to the vehicle, or draw attention to himself. All he has to do is walk up to your car, insert the key and off he goes to a local Chop Shop with your vehicle. It’s unbelievably easy.

How to Prevent Stealing Your VIN?

To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some tape (electrical tape, duct tape or medical tape) across the VIN Metal Label located on the dash board. By law, you cannot remove any sections of VIN number, but you CAN cover it so it is not visible through the windshield for a car thief.

Good Driving!
